Mark, Cece, Cheryl, Mike, Bruce, Gary
Bruce has been having a great time this week playing golf with our neigbor Mike D'Amore and Mike's friends Mark and Gary.  Sadly, the golf get away will soon be ending.  We had a farewell dinner for Mark and Gary at Hansa House last night.

Update on Stinky Inky 2 '14

Yesterday, Stinky Inky became an involuntary guest in our Carolina Room until the storm had passed.

When I got up this morning at 7 am this morning, he was all comfy in the towels in the corner of the Carolina Room. I  put some food out for him.  I propped open the back door for him to go out, and left the room so he didn't feel threatened..   At 10, he was still hunkered down in the bedding in the Carolina Room.  Bruce finally picked him up and tossed him back outside. For all his wild ways, he knows a good deal when he finds it.

2nd Winter Storm: Assessing the Damage

The storm has passed.  It didn't do any damage to our home directly.

End of the Road
That being said, Pawleys  Plantation is facing a major cleanup project  There are trees  and branches down all over the plantation.  Trying to get in and out is like running an obstacle course of broken limbs and ice laden tree branches bending down to windshield height under their loads.

A large number of large  branches  came down off of the pine tree behind our neighbors home

There is a lot of downed the oak and cypress behind our home.
Oaks down behind our home
In addition there are still a some large broken  trees  in the woods behind us that have propped themselves against other trees.  None are posing and direct threat, but they'll have to be removed or their weight may topple the trees they are leaning against..

Crews were out this morning from K A Diehl assessing the damage, but everything is still a bit too ice laden to risk using chain saws.  The most anyone can do right now is move the branches out of the road or walkways so no one gets hurt trying to pass through it.   That's pretty much what everyone is doing as you can see from the two photos below

These fallen  branches were blocking the plantations roadways yesterday,  by noon today they had been pushed off of the road.

The weather forecast is for a warming trend.  Hopefully the ice will be melted by tomorrow and we can get on with the clean up.

2nd Winter Storm: Ice everywhere 2"14

I think half the trees in South Carolina  are coming down in this storm. All day long we could hear a CRACK... BAM every couple of minutes from the woods around us. By noon, the roads through the plantation were nearly impassible due to all the fallen branches.. Will be so glad when this storm is over.

2nd Winter Storm : Gettin Nasty 2 '14

It's getting pretty nasty outside. There's a state of emergency declared for the whole State of South Carolina. I was supposed to be working in the gallery in Charleston, but the many of the bridges into and / or out of the city (including the Ravenell from my direction) are closed due to ice. And its only going to get worse. Needless to say, the gallery director called to say she was closing the gallery for the next two days.

Adventures in an Asian Supermarket 2 '14

The icy roads have kept us housebound for nearly a week, and we have both been feeling a bit stir crazy.  CC had some errands to run in Charleston today, so  we decided to take advantage of the travel with a side trip to an Asian Super Market that has opened up in that area. This little market can't hold a candle to  the ones we had known in Southern California, but still provided us with a delightful time investigating all of their different sauces, spices, and specialty items.  (It took us a full half hour just to check out all their different kinds of soy sauce.)
We came home with a large bag filled with different kinds of dry exotic mushrooms and another full of fresh Asian veggies that aren't available in our local market.  Mmmmm Mmmm are we gonna have fun cooking this week.
