Bruce and I played a round of golf at the Bear Valley Golf Club this morning. The course was beautiful the last time we played here, Since then it has been so badly neglected, that the fairways and greens are now in the worst shape of any course we have ever played. That being said, the course does still have its moments. The photo above is of the terraced 8th hole tee off. There is a good 60 feet of elevation change from the white tees to the green.
Even with the unmowed, weedy tee-off areas, and the overgrown shrubbery, and barren greens, it is a challenging hole to play. More importantly it is a truly beautiful location. Just look at the view of the Gauley Falls and Emory Creek to the right of the yellow tee off position. This is just one of three natural streams running through the course. I can only hope the new owners take better care of the property once they take possession. It has the potential to be one of the prettiest courses in the state.
