Yesterday Bruce noticed that a raccoon has taken up residence in the hollow of a large juniper tree two doors down from us. This is the third year in a row that we have seen a raccoon taking up residence in that tree. Is it one who lived here last Spring, or perhaps one of her kittens has returned to where it was born. One thing is almost certain, it is a female preparing to give birth. This particular tree cavity is deep enough and high enough off of the ground to offer ample protection for the mother and her kittens. So I am sure this will not be the last time we see a raccoon setting up household in our back yard.
